Scuba diving is extremely safe if you follow the rules. Break the rules, however, and all bets are off. Break the rules, and scuba diving can seriously injure, and even kill you. We’re fairly confident you won’t find that particular gem mentioned on many scuba diving related web sites. The truth is, scuba diving has risks, the two most important being Decompression Sickness (also known as “The Bends”) and Lung Over-Expansion Injury (also known as “Air Embolism”) Both are easily understood and avoided, through proper academic and in water training sessions. Unfortunately, in a certification course conducted at a whirlwind pace, important information is approached from the standpoint of cramming for a collage final exam, and may not be retained.
